Architect II

At YR Architecture + Design, we create exceptional modern custom residential architecture across central Ohio and the Midwest. We are a small, design-driven studio focused on warm, contextual, and highly detailed homes—projects where craft, clarity, and care matter at every scale.

We are currently seeking an Architect II to join our team: a senior architectural designer or licensed architect who brings strong design judgment, technical rigor, and visual clarity to complex residential projects.

About the Role

The Architect II is a senior individual contributor role. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the overall success of the firm with your entrepreneurial spirit, pioneering mindset, and strong design talents, as a key member of our creative team. This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Has deep experience translating design intent into coordinated, buildable work
  • Thinks three-dimensionally and relationally across systems, details, and assemblies
  • Communicates ideas clearly through drawings, diagrams, and 3D visualization
  • Operates with a high degree of independence, organization, and accountability

Qualifications

  • Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited program
  • 8+ years of professional experience, ideally including high-end custom residential work
  • Exceptional design skills with a passion for modern contemporary design
  • Strong experience designing, detailing, and documenting projects across all phases
  • High proficiency in Revit, with the ability to manage and coordinate complex models
  • Proficiency in Enscape (or comparable real-time visualization tools) for design development and client presentation
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, compelling visual presentations and 3D models
  • Solid understanding of residential building systems, assemblies, and codes (Type V experience required)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple scopes and deadlines effectively
  • Experience coordinating consultants and contributing meaningfully to construction administration
  • Licensure is preferred but not required

What You’ll Do

As an Architect II at YR, you will:

  • Lead design development for defined scopes or project phases, translating design intent into clear architectural decisions
  • Produce and own major drawing packages or sets, ensuring accuracy, coordination, and completeness through documentation milestones
  • Create strong visual presentations, including diagrams, renderings, and 3D views that communicate design intent to clients and collaborators
  • Model and visualize projects in 3D using Revit and Enscape as design and communication tools
  • Apply building codes and zoning requirements independently, anticipating constraints and addressing them early
  • Think systemically and relationally, understanding how details affect adjacent systems, assemblies, and sequencing
  • Anticipate constructability issues and propose solutions aligned with design intent and real-world constraints
  • Coordinate closely with consultants and internal team members, proactively identifying and closing coordination gaps
  • Contribute to construction administration, responding to RFIs and field conditions with sound professional judgment
  • Maintain organized, reliable workflows that support smooth project delivery and team clarity

Who You Are

  • Design-driven, detail-oriented, and highly organized
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with a small team
  • Confident communicating ideas visually, verbally, and in writing
  • Curious, humble, and committed to continuous improvement
  • Appreciates the outdoors and the role of nature, landscape, and context in shaping meaningful architecture
  • Drawn to projects where buildings are deeply connected to their sites and surroundings
  • Motivated by craft, clarity, and thoughtful residential design

Compensation + Benefits

  • Competitive compensation, commensurate with experience
  • Flexible, hybrid working environment
  • PTO, sick leave, and holidays
  • Health, dental, and vision stipend
  • Opportunities for bonuses
  • A collaborative studio culture with room to grow
