The OPEN DOOR project

When I first started YR Architecture + Design, it was to give you access to affordable design services, knowledge, and resources that could help you get it right in designing your future home.

I love teaching and guiding you, supporting you, and showing you what’s possible in design. I believed my professional and personal experience could make your journey simpler, your home design more functional, and you feel more confident as a result. So YR Architecture + Design was really about getting this design knowledge to you!

As YRa+d has grown and reached more homeowners (thanks for spreading the word!), I’ve learned through your stories what you’re struggling with and where the gap is. And I love hearing from you about your projects and where you’re stuck.

Many architects, at this point, would just say “hire me”. Pay an experienced professional to help guide you and solve your problems.

And while this may work for some, I know it’s not the right approach with you.

I know you. I know that you’re a go-getter and like to research and learn things on your own. I know you like to try things yourself before reaching out and paying someone for help. I get it. I’m the same way.

In really diving into the issue, I’ve learned that many of you struggle with more than just design stuff. I hear stories of how some of you struggle with not only understanding the design and construction process but also in having the courage and motivation to begin the journey and actually create your project. It’s a two-part struggle.

On one hand, you may lack the knowledge and experience of building a custom project (the step-by-step process) and on the other hand, you may lack the right mindset to move forward – one where the internal roadblocks like fear, self-doubt, and anxiety can be dealt with and squashed. I believe it’s through the right education and the right support that people can overcome the challenges and create the house of their dreams.

So…. after a lot of deliberation and talking with people I decided to create something entirely new – an online platform fully dedicated to supporting you through the home design and construction process.

Enter the OPEN DOOR.

With the OPEN DOOR platform, I hope to create a welcoming, motivating place to learn, gain support and feel motivated to create that home you’ve always wanted.

It’s in its early infancy, so bear with me as the platform grows into something great with your help. I see a lot of great things come out of this project and I hope you enjoy what’s to come.

The platform will feature many resources to help you through your home creation journey. Some of these are already in the making, with others soon to follow as the platform grows.

Why separate the OPEN DOOR from YR Architecture + Design?

I decided to create the OPEN DOOR platform separate from YR Architecture + Design because I see it as a separate project.

While YRa+d will still exist to provide you with DESIGN help and resources, the OPEN DOOR project will provide knowledge and empowerment resource for the entire home creation process.

It also makes sense to separate the two because the simple modern design aesthetic of YR Architecture + Design may not be right for everyone. By creating the distinction that design services are provided through YRa+d, the OPEN DOOR platform can stand alone and can grow as a premier online education and support resource:

whatever your budget, your location, or your dreams for your home…
wherever you need help along the entire home building journey…
how small or big or type of project…
whatever your style preferences…
however you’re making it happen…
and whether we work together or not.
